The Danube Water Balance Central Data Storage (DWB-CDS) is the common data repository established within the Danube Water Balance project. The platform supports the organised storage, management and dissemination of datasets, model configurations and simulation results developed during the project.
The Danube Water Balance project is a transnational cooperation initiative bringing together water management authorities, research institutions and technical partners from across the Danube Region. Supported by the Interreg Danube Region Programme, the partnership works jointly to improve knowledge on present and future water availability, strengthen basin-wide cooperation, and develop common tools for evidence-based water management under changing climatic conditions.
All the 14 DRB countries are represented in the project with the involvement of 20 PPs from 11 countries (6 from 3 non-EU ones) and 13 ASPs. It is the first time that all Danube countries would work jointly to achieve a better understanding and a common interpretation of the water balance in order to lay the foundations of improved water management.
The DWB-CDS has been created to provide project partners, stakeholders, researchers and interested users with transparent and structured access to project outputs. By ensuring common standards, metadata, version control and documented workflows, the repository also supports the reproducibility of modelling experiments and the long-term usability of project results.
The repository contains harmonised hydrological, meteorological, environmental and water management datasets relevant to the Danube River Basin and its pilot sub-basins, together with selected model outputs and supporting documentation. Data resources are intended to contribute not only to the Danube Water Balance Model, but also to future hydrological, environmental and planning activities across the basin.
An integrated WebGIS map interface will progressively support spatial browsing and interpretation of available datasets and modelling results. This tool is intended to help users explore basin-scale patterns, pilot catchment information and selected indicators through an interactive visual environment.
The DWB-CDS was developed through the cooperation of the international project partnership and supported by numerous institutions across the Danube Basin. The platform reflects the shared commitment of partners to stronger transnational cooperation, open knowledge exchange and sustainable water governance.
The DWB-CDS applies a tiered access system with three main categories:
A public inventory provides information on available datasets, their access category and contact details of data providers where applicable.
For restricted datasets, access requests must be submitted directly to the data owner, specifying the requested data, intended use and expected outputs. Repository administrators provide only technical access management and do not decide on permissions.
Unless otherwise indicated, open datasets published through the DWB-CDS are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, allowing reuse with appropriate acknowledgement of the source.
Some datasets originate from national institutions or third-party providers and may remain subject to specific national legislation, copyright rules or individual licence conditions. In such cases, the applicable terms defined by the data owner prevail.
Users are responsible for ensuring lawful and appropriate use of all downloaded materials and for citing the original data providers in publications, reports or derived products.
The DWB-CDS administrators and project partners accept no liability for misuse, misinterpretation or unauthorised redistribution of data made available through this platform.
